The doctor shined a light in Santanta's eyes. Santanta hadn't said anything sense he woke up. Everything was silent. They had given him a whiteboard to write on to tell them how he was feeling, but he just drew pictures on it instead. Santanta refused to talk, confused, and a bit nervous, not sure why he wasn't able to hear. Ama watched from the chair she was sitting in.

Crystal got to the hospital, walking down the hall quickly and heading toward his room, still carrying the cupcakes.

The doctor looked at Ama. "If you can get him to talk, at all, please let us know." Ama nodded, "I will."

Crystal got to his room and opened the door slowly, peeking inside.

Santanta was sitting up, drawing a picture on the small white board that they gave him. Ama looked up, "Oh, hi."

"Hi." She said simply, closing the door behind her. She watched Santanta with bright eyes.

Santanta didn't know she was there because he couldn't hear anything. He finished the drawing and chuckled quietly. He then erased it and started a new one. Ama sighed, watching him.

Crystal blinked, going next to his bed and tapping the back of the whiteboard to get his attention. "I'm back." She smiled, not knowing that he couldn't hear her.

Santanta looked up quickly, seeing Crystal, and a smiled grew across his face. Ama leaned back in her seat. "He won't talk. He hasn't talked sense he woke up."

Crystal glanced at Ama. "Why not?" She looked back at him and held out the box of cupcakes, offering him one.

Santanta looked at the box and took one carefully, trying not to drop it. He sat the whiteboard down, using it as a table. Ama shrugged, "I don't know. Ask him."

Crystal blinked. "Are you okay?" She asked him.

Santanta didn't react. He was looking at the cupcake, pulling the paper off the sides of it, then took a bite.

Santanta took another bite, then looked down at the whiteboard.

Crystal glanced at Ama in confusion, then waved her hand in front of his face. "Hello...?"

Ama giggled, watching. Santanta looked at Crystal then wrote out on the board, "I can't hear you."

Crystal blinked, reading the board. She took the marker and wrote back, "Why not?"

Santanta shrugged and erased the writing. "What'd he say?" Ama asked quickly, sitting up straighter.

Crystal looked over at Ama. "He said that he can't hear anything..."

"That explains a lot," Ama smiled widely. "We thought he had some serious brain issue or something that wasn't letting him talk." She got up and rushed out of the room. Santanta took another bite of the cupcake.

Crystal watched her leave, then sighed and looked back at him. She took the marker, then wrote on the board, "It's my birthday today."

Santanta smiled and looked at Crystal, nodding. He opened his mouth to say something, but quickly stopped himself.

Crystal blinked, then wrote down, "What?", quickly.

He hesitated, wanting to say it out loud, but nervous to sense he wouldn't be able to hear his own voice.
