Crystal looked surprised. "Really!? Wow. You must be rich."

"They own more than just this place. They own a pizza shop down the street. A bar around the corner, and a movie theatre. You could say I have my connections, and the money to go along with it." He smiled and walked to a table, sitting down.

Crystal blinked. "My gosh..." She sat down in the seat across from him.

A woman came over to them with the menu's and said, "Here are your menu's. I'll be back to get your order." Brian nodded and picked his up, looking at it.

Crystal looked through the menu for a minute, then set the menu down, knowin what she wanted. "So, what did you order?"

Brian nodded. "So do I," he said as he tapped the tips of his fingers together, a nervous habit.

Crystal sighed and looked around awkwardly, then rested her elbow on the table, putting her hand against her cheek. "So... How's life?" She smiles, trying to start some sort of conversation.

"Very good, actually," he says, "What about you? Tell me about yourself. I know you are really good at go-cart racing, want to be a doctor, and like Mexican food, but what else is there to such a fascinating person such as yourself?"

Crystal smiled and tapped her fingers on the table, thinking. "Well, I can cook... Sort of..." Then she realized what she was saying was probably too simple. "I can't stand to see anyone in pain. I just... Can't. That's why I want to be a doctor. I want to help people. And... Well..." He voice trails off. She was debating if she should tell him this or not.

"Well...?" he said expectingly, leaning forward in his seat slightly, waiting for the words.

Crystal sighed and put her hands together, not sure where to start. "When I was little, there was a big fire at our house... My parents died saving me and my sister. We were put in a rotten orphanage for a long time. The lady there hated us. She made us do dumb chores that nobody else wanted to do, but she always found a way to make them worse. Like cleaning the toilets with a toothbrush." Crystal closed her eyes, shaking her head.

Brian was shocked. He gently moved back to sit awkwardly in his seat. After a long moment, he spoke, "I-I don't know what to say... I'm so sorry to hear that."

The waitress came back over to them and asked, "Are you ready?" "Yes, I believe so." He looked at Crystal for confirmation.

The waitress nodded and walked off. Brian looked around awkwardly, then asked, "What was it like in an orphanage? If you don't mind me asking..."

"It was like being in jail." She answered quickly. "Gross food, hard beds... Bullies... It wasn't fun."
